e-commerce website security?

Hello,

I've got a small e-commerce website that is need of a facelift/redesign and I'm seriously considering starting a contest here at DC.


My questions: How can I be assured that the setup of the 'shopping cart' is done securely? Will I be required to provide the designer with sensitive personal information such as my bank account number, etc?
